Concept Explanation

Newton First Law of Motion

An object continues to be in motion with the same speed and in same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. An object resists change in their state of rest or motion. it is also known as Law of Inertia.

Force is defined as the product of mass of the object and acceleration produced in the object.

 F= m X  a

Where F is Force applied, ‘m is mass of object and a is acceleration produced’ in the object. The force is said to be 1N if it produces an acceleration of 1 m/s^2 in a body of mass 1 kg.

Illustration: What is the force applied by a  body of mass 4 kg producing an  acceleration of about 5m/s.

Solution :   Here, mass(m) = 4 Kg

                  Acceleration(a) = 5 m/s

                  Force  =  4  x  5  =  20 Kg m/s= 20 N
